During our recent trip ...

During our recent trip we stayed in 12 different hotels. We have found the bigger the hotel the more impersonal it becomes. The Edison is ideally located, the bed was comfortable but the bathroom was very small and no place to hang towels. When we arrived we found we had to pay an extra $40 plus taxes ‘service charge’ PER DAY which apparently covers breakfast and cleaning. I asked if we could skip these but the answer was no. Breakfast was provided by vouchers that were presented to one of 3 nearby cafes for a ‘grab and go’. You had to pay extra to sit down. Would we come back to this hotel? -No.

The hotel is clean, ...

The hotel is clean, comfortable and well laid out. Staff were respectable. King size room was very comfortable. Small bathroom, which is typical for older hotels in NYC. The breakfast at the restaurant was $6.50. There was free cocktails on the Friday evening, which ended at 6pm (I think it started at 4.30pm) with live music. Times Square literally around the corner. Walking distance to restaurants and taverns. I truly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Edison.

From the friendly and ...

From the friendly and efficient front desk to the absolute cleanliness of the public spaces, this art deco gem is a charmer and possibly the best value in Times Square/Hell's Kitchen. We had a superior king room which was a corner room. Huge by Manhattan standards although the bathroom was typically Manhattan small. Spotlessly clean with plenty of towels and great views. Please understand how the included breakfast works. You pay a $6.50 plate fee and then you can order from a limited menu, coffee included. It's a good value, if you have ever ordered two eggs, potatoes, toast and coffee in this neighborhood you know how expensive a simple breakfast with coffee can be. As a plus, the time from ordering to being served was the quickest we have ever experienced. On Tuesday and Friday from 5pm to 6pm there is a wine party in the side lobby with live music. The music was outstanding and who doesn't love free Prosecco???? The doormen are great, the street completely safe, the building is a historic piece of art deco and it is perfectly located on 47th Street just 1/2 block west of Times Square.
